Shoulder arthroscopy is a minimal invasive technique. It entails the insertion of a camera into your shoulder joint by means of small incisions. It will let visualise the structures that form the said joint just like the needed tools in order to repair a great amount of injuries.
BENEFITS
the advantage of a better visualisaton of the joint structures, compared to traditional surgery.
Since it is a minimal invasive technique, it implies a postoperative process less painful, as well as a quicker functional rehab because it allows an earlier beginning of the rehabilitative treatment.
INDICATIONS
- Subacromial syndrome.
- Rotator cuff tear.
- Relapsing shoulder dislocation and instability.
SHOULDER ARTHROSCOPY COMPLICATIONS
- INFECTIONS. In spite of using antibiotic prophylaxis, there is always risk of infection after any surgical process. In shoulder arthroscopy cases the infection rate represents around the 1%. It is usually a superficial infection whose solution consists of an antibiotic pattern.
- NEUROLOGICAL INJURIES. Unusual.
- RE-RUPTURE OF REPAIRED STRUCTURES. It may happen for different reasons: a bad rehabilitation process, suture dehiscence or used material failure.
- JOINT STIFFNESS. Joint stiffness may vary from restricting motion slightly to producing important constraints.
